Joining this sunrise chasing tour and taking the adventure from the Preikestolen crowd-free hike in Lysefjord! This twilight hike led by a seasoned, professional tour guide will leave you awestruck as you soak in panoramic views within a magnificent setting.

This pre-dawn hike is rated at a moderate difficulty level which means that it's appropriate for those who have some experience hiking and are in good physical shape. It is also suitable for most ages as long as the participants fit those two qualities. As for what you should bring along, be sure to include functional hiking boots, water-resistant pants, warm socks, rain-proof jacket, woolen or fleece sweater, small backpack, warm hat and gloves, snacks, and water.

This exciting hiking excursion begins very early in the morning with your tour guide picking you up from your desired location. Once you are at the trailhead, the guide will give you a piping hot cup of coffee to help you fully wake up and increase your energy level.

Once you've arrived at the hiking trail, your guide will give a brief discussion on the morning's events and safety. You will then embark on your journey in the silence of the night, utilizing headlamps to help make your way through this fantastic territory that includes trails recently upgraded by Nepalese Sherpas. If you've never hiked in the dead of night, then you are certainly in for a special treat, especially since you'll be able to hear wildlife all around you as you journey through forests, bogs, and glacier-scoured mountains.

Approximately 2.5 hours later, you will reach the Preikestolen plateau overlooking over the Lysefjord right before sunrise. You'll have time to find a comfortable place to relax and then witness the first beams of sunlight streaking across the horizon and illuminating the steep mountain walls before you. While viewing this incredible event, you will enjoy a warm cup of coffee and have plenty of opportunities to take amazing photos. To conclude your hike, you'll head back down the trail to a well-deserved breakfast/lunch at the Preikestolen Mountain Lodge.

Good to know

Due to the possibility of rapidly-changing weather conditions, it may be necessary to make changes to scheduled trips. If your trip needs to be rescheduled for another day or canceled on short notice, you may choose between joining the rescheduled trip or getting a refund. If weather conditions deteriorate during your trip, it may be necessary to turn around on the trail or head back earlier than planned. If this happens, no refunds will be given.

We cannot guarantee that the sunrise will be visible during all hikes. As with all outdoor activities, the weather is not something humans can control. Based on our experiences with past guests, we don’t cancel our tours in advance because of grey skies, light rain, or fog. Guests have a wide range of expectations, but it is our experience that most would instead go through with their hike, regardless of the weather conditions. Hiking under blue skies is beautiful, but there is also beauty in hiking through clouds, fog, and light rain. Some of the most spectacular sunrises have resulted from such conditions.
