Description

Crawl beneath the Norwegian soil for dark, adrenaline-fueled cave exploration. Our Northern Norway Caving Adventure will take you into the nation’s wildest grottos, whether you’re a beginner with a penchant for a steady amble or a thrill-seeker with years of caving experience.

Your guide will meet you in Bodø, Fauske before you begin your hike to Nordland’s Svarthammarhola grottos. Here, underground waterfalls are gorgeously offset by white marble jetties and jagged spires. Our adventure tour includes hiking, crawling, and abseiling, with each route being selected according to your difficulty level, fitness, and taste for the extreme.

Before you set off on your adventure, your guide will go over some important safety information and select your route. Then, it’s time for a steady one-hour walk to the caves.

The Troll Church has three limestone caves with their own underground marble pool. The first will lead you along winding corridors until you reach the world famous white fishing lake. This cave is 70 meters long, but your entire underground expedition will take you about five hours.

The deeper caving systems have startlingly beautiful halls and crawling routes for those who prefer a challenge. You’ll ascend the interior of the mountain along rugged terrain and beneath atmospheric cliffs, but you’ll receive your just reward: a stunning view of the land surrounding you.

Once you’re finished your trip, you can take a refreshing dip in the lake near the entrance, perfect for washing away your exhaustion and the mud of the cave.

This is an adventure you can take at any time of year because the caves are the same temperature no matter the season. They’ll keep you cozy in winter and refreshing in summer. We love the atmospheric effects of winter on the grottos, though.

Svarthammarhola caves combine difficult and moderate routes, so this tour suits relatively fit beginners and those with moderate caving experience. Family groups with children of 10 and older are welcome. All you need is a pair of sturdy hiking boots and an adventurous spirit.

As local travel aficionados, we know every corner and gritty underbelly of Norway. Choose the date of availability now for this tour tailored to fit you.
