Hiking To Åselidalen Hidden Valley in Bodø Day Tour

This group tour is designed for a minimum of 2 people, and groups larger than 8 or 10 may be divided to allow a more intimate experience. You'll meet your tour guide in downtown Bodø, right by the Tourist Information. From there, you and the other tour participants will be transported to the start of the hike. Your friendly, English-speaking guide will give you an idea of what to expect along the way. In preparation, make sure you wear hiking boots or sturdy running shoes and bring along a small daypack for your snacks, cameras, and wind jacket.

As you begin hiking down into the valley, you'll see the sharp, rocky peaks of the Børvasstindane mountains ascending on either side of the trail. These peaks rise to about 1,000 metes above sea level and seem to reach the clouds.

From the uppermost part of the Åselidalen valley, you'll look down over a mixture of grasslands and rock formations, blending together to form the beauty Norway has become known for. Later on, you'll encounter Lake Skarvatnet, with light reflecting off its cool waters. The tour also passes small waterfalls and mountain streams, some of which you can drink from. 

Plan to spend a total of 6 to 8 hours on your tour, including transport to and from the hike's starting point. The hiking route itself is approximately 4 km in each direction or 8 km round-trip. You'll start at about 60 meters above sea level, and ascend to a height of 160 meters above sea level to Lake Åselivatnet before returning back along a similar route. If everyone in the group is capable, your tour guide may take you on a longer, extended route that stretches for 12 km and includes a bit more rugged terrain. Upon completion of the hike, your group will be transported back to downtown Bodø.
