Embrace your early bird by joining a professional guide on the Kjerag Beat the Crowd Early-Morning Summer Hiking Tour. This trek to the famous Kjerag boulder will surround you with amazing sights and sounds as you enjoy one of Norway's most popular locales.
This breathtaking tour is rated as more difficult, which means that it is suitable only for adults in very good physical shape who have hiking experience under their belt. You will be asked to bring hiking boots, a small backpack, a pair of socks, a rain-proof jacket, a pair of water-resistant pants, woolen or fleece sweater, and a packed lunch/snacks/water. You will be able to rent some of the items if needed.
Your awe-inspiring adventure will begin early in the morning with a pick-up at your selected location and a one-hour road trip filled with stunning views. After arriving at Høgsfjord, you'll hop on a speed ferry witness the Preikestolen cliff, gorgeous waterfalls, and abandoned farms. Once ashore, your tour guide will drive you through 26 hairpin turns toward the village of Lysebotn. From there, you’ll head up the Sirdal mountains and then to the Eagle's Nest trail-head.
The next part of the excursion toward Kjerag boulder will take 2.5 hours, during which you will experience three areas of steep climbing and two shallow valleys. You will be able to see the village of Lysebotn as you make your way through this wonderous, beautiful wilderness. Then, you can breathe easy for a bit as the final two kilometers leading to the boulder are relatively flat.
Once you reach the mountain's plateau, be sure to pull out your camera or phone and begin snapping pictures. If you're lucky, you might even get a snapshot of base jumpers hurtling themselves off the side of the cliff. Plus, you will be given a chance to stand on the boulder if you fancy yourself a bit of a daredevil.
After lunch, your small group will be led back down to the Eagle's Nest over two hours. Then, it's a drive back to Stavanger, where you will be taken over a mountain pass through Sirdal. During this final leg of your journey, you will also be exposed to a barren, glacier-scoured landscape that resembles the moon’s surface.
