Experience the magnificent wonders of Norway’s most famous landscape is exactly what the Preikestolen Autumn Hike and Lysefjord Cruise Tour are all about, which makes it perfect for your next vacation. This fantastic afternoon excursion takes advantage of Autumn colors and post-equinox daylight to give you a two-part tour featuring unique sights and sounds, unlike anything you've seen before.  This excursion isn’t too rigorous, but it’s rated as a moderate difficulty, which means that participants should be in the good physical condition and possess past hiking experience. For a safe and comfortable adventure, you should bring along a small backpack, pair of warm socks, hiking boots, fleece or woollen sweater, water-resistant pants, rain-proof jacket, warm hat and gloves, and packed lunch, snacks, and water. Some of these items are available for rental, so please inquire.

Your adventure starts late-morning in Stavanger, with a 2-hour Rødne fjord cruise, departing from Stavanger harbor, during which you’ll view Stavanger from a different perspective and get an overview of the surrounding fjords, islands, and mountains. You will travel through the Høgsfjord, beneath a suspension bridge spanning the mouth of the Lysefjord, and watch as the majestic Preikestolen presents itself. After this spectacular view, you will visit Vagabond’s cove and learn about the legend of this mysterious and unique natural landmark.

Once you’ve reached the Lysefjord and gone ashore, you’ll begin the hiking portion of this fantastic excursion at the Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. You’ll immediately notice the tranquil nature of your surroundings that are due to flora and fauna preparing for the winter season that will soon follow. From there, you will embark on a 2-2.5 hour hike where you will have plenty of photo opportunities until you reach the cliff high above Preikestolen and the Lysefjord.

After taking a brief rest and having a snack, you will make your way back to the Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. An alternate route will be taken if conditions permit, which will give you a different perspective as you face Stavanger and the ocean. If this occurs, you will be walking toward the beautiful and engaging sunset. Darkness will begin to fall during the return trip, and you will be given a headlamp for this final stretch of your incredible adventure.

Good to know

Due to the possibility of rapidly-changing weather conditions, it may be necessary to make changes to scheduled trips. If your trip needs to be rescheduled for another day or canceled on short notice, you may choose between joining the rescheduled trip or getting a refund. If weather conditions deteriorate during your trip, it may be necessary to turn around on the trail or head back earlier than planned. If this happens, no refunds will be given.

NOTE: We cannot guarantee that the sunset will be visible during all hikes. As with all outdoor activities, the weather is not something humans can control. Based on our experiences with past guests, we don’t cancel our tours in advance because of grey skies, light rain, or fog. Guests have a wide range of expectations, but it is our experience that most would instead go through with their hike, regardless of the weather conditions. Hiking under blue skies is beautiful, but there is also beauty in hiking through clouds, fog, and light rain. Some of the most spectacular sunsets have resulted from such conditions.
