You will head out from the city to visit the mountain village of Geilo, located between Oslo and Bergen. On your way, you can make a stop at the Langedrang mountain farm to take in its fairy tale scenery. We also recommend a visit to Ål to see the ancient stave church Torporg.

As you arrive in Geilo, you will discover an array of restaurants, shops and activities to choose from. Explore the old part of town in Geilojordet, where buildings from the 18th century are sure to satisfy your thirst for culture. You will spend the night in Geilo.

After enjoying breakfast in Geilo, you will get back on the road to drive to one of the largest fjords in Norway. Hardangerfjord is a spectacularly scenic area lined with such famous waterfalls as Vøringsfossen, Skjervefossen, Låtefoss and Furubergfossen.

At the bottom of Måbødalen Valley, you’ll find the Hardangervidda Nature Centre, a mountain plateau of alpine climate ideal for hiking and outdoor activities. You could also visit Norheimsund to walk behind the waterfall Steindalsfossen, a unique experience in its own right.

You will spend the night at an accommodation in Bergen.

Day 4 - Bergen

9 Day Self-Drive Tour | Norwegian Fjords & The Olympic City

Welcome to Bergen, the gateway to the fjords of Norway. This city is surrounded by stunning sceneries of fjords, where the rural life of the area is excellently preserved, guaranteeing you a glimpse into authentic fjord living.

The city of Bergen not only offers a wide selection of fjord explorations but a cultural hub of galleries and museums as well. Why not head to the Bergen Fish Market in the city centre to pick up the catch of the day.

The harbour of the town is listed as a World Heritage site, where the wooden architecture of a bygone era presents a community of restaurants, workshops and studios, as well as hosting the Bryggen Museum.

Another possible activity is to catch a train from the city centre on the Fløibanen Funicular Railway, which takes you to Mount Floyen to enjoy a panoramic view of the city and its surrounding fjord landscape. You will spend the night in Bergen.

Day 5 - Sognefjord and Aurlandsfjord

9 Day Self-Drive Tour | Norwegian Fjords & The Olympic City

Your drive will continue from Bergen to Voss, known as the adrenaline capital of Norway, located between the two famous fjords Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord. In the former, you will find the village Flåm, where, if time allows, you can embark on the scenic railway ride Flamsbana.

Between Flåm and Gudvangen we recommend a stop at Undredal village, famous for its small stave church and vibrant local culture. Don’t forget to try their famous goat cheese. Conclude your day by driving through Aurlandsfjorden, situated in the southern part of Sognefjorden.

As you take in the breathtaking scenery of steep mountains and blue waters, you can treat yourself to stops in the friendly villages of Aurland and Lærdal. You can also opt to hike to the viewpoint of Stegastein, situated only 6 kilometres from the centre of Aurland.

Your final destination for the day will be in Sogndal, where you will spend the night at a local accommodation.
